Though he was not born in Philadelphia, Connie Mack did spend a lot of his life here. He was most well known for being the first baseball manager to win the World Series three times. He managed the Philadelphia Athletics for the team's first 50 seasons before retiring at the age of 87.

Kobe Bryant

Though he tragically died at the beginning of 2020, Kobe Bryant famously attended Lower Merion High School before beginning his 20-year basketball career with the Los Angeles Lakers. Many local basketball fans can be seen wearing Kobe Bryant's vintage jersey from his Lower Merion basketball days.

Chuck Barris

Chuck Barris is best known for hosting The Gong Show and creating the famous show, The Dating Game. He created and hosted several game shows, produced television shows, authored books, and even wrote a song for Freddy Cannon called Palisades Park. Jimmy Smith

American jazz musician and local legend Jimmy Smith was born in Norristown, PA, in 1925. He popularized the Hammond B-3 organ and is credited with helping jazz and soul music's modern sound and influence. He was discovered by a Philadelphia radio station's talent show and later went on to enjoy a decades-long career with many notable collaborations with other Philadelphia bands and musicians.

Hobey Baker

Hobey Baker was an accomplished professional football player, but he's most well known for being among the first American ice hockey stars to be recognized by the Hall of Fame. Hobey Baker was born at the end of the 19th century and died shortly after World War I in France. The fact that people still talk about Hobey Baker nearly a century later signifies the impact he had on the sport of ice hockey.
